The Daily Training Routine of a Professional Esports Player

A Zerdava player's day isn't spent only at the screen; running, replay analysis, sleep and a nutrition plan are at the heart of the routine.

From the outside, an esports player's day looks like 'playing games for hours'. In reality, a professional squad follows a daily routine planned like that of any sports club. We summarise a typical day for Zerdava Tactical players, along with why each activity is done.

Morning: body and mind preparation (09:00-11:00)

The day starts with a 30-40 minute run or light strength work. The aim is less about fitness than about improving attention span and sleep quality. Breakfast follows, then a short breathing and focus exercise. Our sports psychologist holds individual sessions twice a week.

Midday: individual work (11:00-13:00)

Each player works on a task list specific to their role: aim training, map positions, utility timing or mechanical repetitions. The coach updates the plan by looking at the previous day's data.

Afternoon: team training (14:00-19:00)

The busiest block of the day is scrim matches simulating opponents, tactical rehearsal and post-match replay analysis. The analyst marks the decision points of each round and discusses them with players. A 10-minute break is taken every 90 minutes, and stepping away from the screen is mandatory.

Evening: recovery (19:00-22:00)

Dinner, stretching, stream or social-media content shoots and personal time fall in this block. No training takes place after 23:30; the club monitors sleep patterns and asks players to switch off screens.

Why so structured?

Esports requires millisecond reflexes together with long-term focus and steady communication. Research shows regular sleep and physical activity significantly improve cognitive performance. That is why we plan the whole day, not just the gaming hours.

The first tip for amateur players is simple: keep your play hours consistent, take a break every 90 minutes, add 20 minutes of walking or running three days a week and try to protect your sleep time. In our academy programme we apply a version of this routine adapted to your level.

Nutrition and hydration

Players' nutrition is planned by a dietitian. Heavy and greasy meals are avoided; balanced meals with complex carbohydrates, protein and vegetables are preferred. A target of at least 2.5 litres of water a day is set during training, and energy drinks are not used on training days. The nutrition plan is updated every season according to the player's age, weight and training load.

Mental health

Intense competition can lead to anxiety and burnout. That is why one full day off is given each week, a protection protocol against social-media comments is applied and a confidential support line is available to players.

You don't need to copy this routine exactly; what matters is knowing that habits outside the game are part of performance too.
